Round 2 of the 2020 MotoGP championship returns to the Jerez Circuit where qualifying was held earlier today. As he did last week, Fabio Quartararo (Yamaha) took pole position by edging out Maverick Viñales (Yamaha). In a bit of a surprise, Francesco Bagnaia was the fastest Ducati in qualifying, and will start on the outside of the front row.
Marc Marquez (Honda) returned to the track today following surgery to repair his arm on Tuesday of this week. Marquez felt good, and was relatively quick when he took to the track this morning, but later developed inflammation in his arm and withdrew after completing a single lap in Q1. Marquez will try to race the next round, which is two weeks away at Brno.
You can find full qualifying results here. Look for a full race report on MD tomorrow.
Did you see the video of him doing 40 push-ups less than a week after breaking his arm? Simply amazing. Don’t understand how that’s even possible.
Well, he had to try. I’ve only broken a few bones, and believe that medical science has improved since then, but the determination and recovery speed of these guys is amazing.
It should be a good race, and hopefully Marc will be back in the hunt in Brno. While Fabio would seem to be the favorite, all the riders in the top 10 would seem to have a possibility of winning.
He did a one thirty seven something just days after surgery, then decides his lack of control might put others in danger, so he pulled out. Love him or hate him, the guy is “the bar” that everyone else has to reach, whether he’s there or not. He’s good for the sport; hope he’s back soon.
I don’t believe for a second that he withdrew because it “might put others in danger”. It never concerned him before.
MM must be hurting. I feel it’s a good decision for him….sensible. It should still be a good race and might just have some unexpected drama.
