Maybe Ducati’s street-legal GP bike, the Desmosedici D16RR, is old news, but seeing – or just hearing – one is still a head-turning event. So imagine being at a trackday with not just one, but 45 of these $60,000-plus machines in action.
That’s just what happened June 30th at the U.K.’s Donington Park. Ducati United Kingdom organized the trackday, and owners from all over Europe attended, creating what must have been an incredibly delicious din. The owners, from the U.K., Germany, France, Switzerland and Holland got over two and a half hours of track time, as well as a chance to participate in seminars with Alan Jenkins (the D16RR’s designer) and other racing notables.
Additionally, a silent auction raised over $9000 for Riders for Health, an organization that helps provide reliable transportation for health workers in Africa. One of the auction items? A two-up ride at Donington during the British MotoGP weekend with racer Randy Mamola, a co-founder of Riders for Health. Those less-brave bidders could also purchase a paddock pass and lunch with Randy.
